Outreach

The Outreach Committee was formed in 2019 to bring cohesiveness to the various outreach groups within the parish. The committee has the joyful mission of recommending annual donations from the Outreach Fund to the Vestry. The Outreach Committee welcomes input and actively encourages all parishioners to use their individual gifts of time, talent, and resources to embrace and support our ongoing relationships with nonprofit organizations.

St. Chrys. Kitchen

This outreach program is a ministry that invites all to contribute in a variety of interesting ways.

Monthly Dinners: We provide hot meals on the third Tuesday of every month.

Weekly Lunch Program: St. Chrys Kitchen volunteers provide weekly (Wednesday) sack lunches to our neighbors throughout Chicago, distributing the meals through our partner organizations, including Mother Betty Price Foundation, Chicago Help Initiative, and Break Bread Ministries, a ministry of LaSalle Street Church. The program has received incredible support from our church and community, providing nearly 17,000 lunches in 2021 alone. Bag lunches may be dropped off at the parish from 7:30am-9am on Wednesday mornings.

Please contact the church office to get involved with St. Chrys. Kitchen Ministries.

St. Leonard’s House & Grace Place

St. Leonard’s House and Grace Place are residential facilities supported by our Episcopal Diocese, assisting former prisoners as they reintegrate into society. The monthly onsite celebration with the residents is an important role St. Leonard’s Ministries has played in easing each resident’s transition from prison back into society. This most successful residential reentry program is a very important outreach ministry of St. Chrysostom’s, providing personal support and recognition. Our involvement provides encouragement, shows residents that others believe in them, and applauds the skills they have gained and the milestones they have reached since their release from prison. Our monthly Recognition Thursday event meets on the last Thursday between 12:30pm and 1:30pm at St. Leonard’s Ministries in the Michael Barlow Center located at 2120 W. Warren Boulevard. The Chiapas Project

Among the important outreach activities in our parish is participation in an informal coalition with members of several Chicago parishes working together as the “Chiapas Project” in the Chicago Diocese Companionship relationship with the Diocese of Southeast Mexico. This coalition includes parishioners from St. Chrysostom’s, the Cathedral, Church of our Savior, Holy Comforter, and many others.

Members of the Chiapas Project make visits to two missions in Chiapas: St. Benito de Nursia, St. Christobal, and St Marcos at Yochib in the Mayan highlands and occasional visits to two children’s homes: the Hogar Infantil in Ocozocoactia and the Mission Mexico in Tapachula.
